Great Ocean Road - Day 1

Well, on Sunday, February 6, we started the main part of the australian leg of the trip. We had decided to do the great ocean road, a spectacular drive along the coastline near Melbourne.
The drive is in the style of the Highway 1 drive many are aware of in California, between LA and San Francisco.

There is a great tourism site here if you want to see more pix of this area

We first stopped in Torquay, a very picturesque surfer town about 1 hr from Melbourne.

We saw some kite surfers and regular surfers and the weather was perfect, in the 70s and sunny. Next we went on a little hike at a place called Point Addis, and saw Bell's Beach nearby, which is a very famous surfing beach.

We also had dinner there, as the day began to draw to a close, next to the pounding surf. Its really an amazing area to drive in. We then drove that night to Apollo Bay, a resort town along the way.
