Great Ocean Road - Days 2 and 3

On Monday, we continued our journey - we got to the best part of the Great Ocean Road, where limestone rock formations known as the 12 Apostles are located. These are limestone cliffs that at one time were connected to the mainalnd, but sea air and water eroded the cliffs so they now sit in the ocean - some are as high as 200 feet! There are allegedly 12 of them, but we never saw more than 10...This was one of the best days of the trip, a major highlight. We also visisted a site nearby known as Loch Ard, where a famous ship wreck occurred - this area of the Great Ocean Road is known as the Shipwreck Coast - over 75 have happened over the last 150 years in this 30 mile area...

That night, on our way to Adelaide, we drove to a small town called Naracoorte. We went to some caves in the area the next day, where they have lovely underground formations, and some interesting bats. We had a nice tour and found out many things about bats, such as the fact that they are not really blind, just not used to the light since they sit in the dark much of the day, hence their confusion when flying during daylight. we then drove to a ferry near Adelaide, where we took the ferry over to Kangaroo Island....see pix below from this day.
